Your Steam page is the display window of your digital storefront. To make them buy your game, you need to make this window as appealing as possible by showcasing the best of what you sell.

But, with SO many indie games being released every month, how do you make your Steam page stand out? Here are 6 tips!

1. Design a compelling storefront

Steam is the #1 platform through which new players are going to find your game. So, you need to make your Steam page discoverable by optimizing it. This way, when someone searches for games in your genre, your game will show up at the top of the search results.

Optimizing your Steam page includes:

  • Using the relevant tags and categories: How would you describe your game? Pick the tags and categories that do just that! But, make sure to use a mixture of broad as well as specific tags to give you the right amount of visibility while making sure that your game doesn’t get lost amidst a sea of similar games.
  • Making the visuals aesthetically pleasing: This means high-quality capsule images, gameplay photos, and a well-made trailer that highlights the uniqueness of your game.
  • Writing a great description: Your game description should be brief, call attention to what your game’s all about, and also mention what people would get out of playing it.

2. Network

The Steam Community Hub offers a great way for you to engage with potential players and promote your game. Actively take part in discussions, respond to user queries and feedback, and just put yourself out there. By doing all this, you’ll foster a loyal gaming community!

3. Take part in Steam fests

Steam fests, such as the Next Fest and other genre-specific fests, provide a great opportunity for indie game developers to get their demos played by hundreds of players and interact with them live! You can also enter your game to be a part of Steam’s trading cards to get more people talking about your game.

4. Reach out to Steam curators

Steam curators are like the influencers of the Steam world. They curate lists of games that they think others should play. Getting featured in these lists can boost your visibility! To get featured in these lists, identify curators who make lists of games similar to yours and send them a personalized message with a compelling pitch as to why your game should be included.

5. Make your Steam page inclusive

Do many of your target players live in places where English isn’t the main language? If yes, include translations to your game description and subtitles in those languages. This will make your game accessible to users from different regions, expanding your reach significantly.

6. Promote your Steam page on other platforms

Be it your social media pages, your newsletter, or through press releases, make sure to point back to your Steam page and encourage people to add your game to their wishlists. Why is this important, though? Because these avenues give you more chances to connect with potential players who aren’t that active on Steam. Moreover, the more attention and wishlists your game gets, the higher the chance of it getting featured on Steam's front page or on its curated lists, which can exponentially boost your game.
